Ten sledders waited all winter for the first snow, and few had chance to test out their sleds before the big expedition!! The first real snows of the winter arrived just two days before our outing was due to start. We didn't hesitate at this omen and it paid off. We had good fresh snow each day of our adventure and the logging trails were fast and fun. The regular snowmobile trails weren't yet well packed or groomed, so we stayed off them as much as possible. Like last year, we put in each day at Bill's house because the trails in & out of Corny weren't good! Bill and Tom O. sure know their way around the Chequamegon Forest and they led us to great riding each day. We blew through a lot of wonderful powder trails, and reveled at beating the Weekend Warriors to the enjoyment. As always, safety was utmost for our gang, and not a scratch or bruise was noted (save, perhaps, for a few bruised egos due to sled troubles or slow machines)!!.
Laurie Perkins and her crew, led by Terry, from the Village Inn (A Gracious Country Inn—except for the BJ week) took care of us so well again this year.
The sledders to partake in 2003 (and their # of trips) were: John Pearson (29), Roy Bewick (28), Dave Hagen (26), Paul Bewick (23), Bill Schroeder (21), Tom Elmquist (21), Jim Alford (15), Tom Orne (12), Don Larson (9) and Lee Branwall (6). A big thanks to Wayne Girard for focusing on his schoolwork which allowed us to utilize his bedroom and facilities! We'll search for some 'new blood' next year to keep the gang going on its 30th outing and our objective of 50 straight expeditions!!.
As usual, our high-tech leader, Tom E. has risen to the occasion and brought his high-resolution digital camera. With this light-weight tool, we were able to again capture some trail photos! Lately we've been travelling so fast that none of us were keen on carrying a camera on the trail.
Our 'official' annual group photo and some great trail photos
